This lighthouse is located as far north as you can go in the Hawaiian Island chain. When the big
wintertime surf swells hit sometimes these swells can get exceptionally huge. This was the biggest
surf swell to hit in a 5 year period of time. This is one of a 2 shot sequence that I sell prints of at the
Kilauea Lighthouse visitor center. The backwash from the wave sprayed thousands of gallons above
the Lighthouse and perfectly framed the lighthouse in white. This was the biggest wave to hit in a 2
hr period of shooting.
